KU Libraries

Many KU Librarians have provided invaluable professional advice we have come to rely upon for mentoring our interns and guiding the Center’s collections management. We also work closely with KU Libraries to make our collections of books, archives, & artwork related to the migration of German speakers to the United States and to the ethnic communities they built available to scholars, striving to inform scholars and students of new acquisitions and related holdings already found in KU Libraries and MKC collections.

A finding aid created in 2020 serves as one example of this type of partnership. In 2020, Hannah Combs (KU Graduate Certificate in Second Language Studies 2020; KU: Master of Arts/Political Science 2021), Research Assistant for the Max Kade Center, spearheaded a collaborative effort, with both the Kenneth Spencer Research Library (KSRL) and the Watkins Museum of History, to highlight the rich collections related to the Lawrence Turnverein held by the Watkins, KSRL, and the MKC (photographs; artifacts; ledgers containing the organization’s financial records, meeting minutes, membership and dues; gymnastics equipment, the Lawrence Turner library).
